My Laptop Screen Is White

Posted on 14:17 by Unknown

My laptop screen is white, experience overtime has shown that the cause can be conveniently narrowed down to three and by following simple troubleshooting techniques we can zero down on the actual cause of the fault. So when your screen starts behaving funny don’t write off the laptop yet or rush into conclusion that you need to buy a new screen.

The truth is when the screen of a laptop develops a fault, most people feel it is something that they can’t handle on their own, hence they go looking for an engineer down the road to help them fix the laptop back, but fixing a laptop screen may not be as complicated as you are meant to believe by the engineer, it is something that you can do very much handle on your own.

Possible Faults
  • Loose connection between the video cable and the LCD screen or a bad video cable
  • Faulty or bad LCD screen
  • Faulty or bad VGA card
Solutions
  • Connect an external computer monitor to the laptop, to do this just connect the monitor to the VGA port at the back or side of the laptop, then switch the video output from internal to external mode by holding down the Fn + F (that has a TV icon on top of it) keys. On some laptops, to switch to external mode, you have to restart the laptop after connecting it to the external monitor, so that it can detect it. If the external monitor displays fine, then you have a problem with the LCD screen or video cable, but if the image displayed on the external monitor is the same as the one displayed on the laptop LCD screen, then it means that your laptop LCD screen is OK.
  • If the external monitor image is the same as the one on the laptop LCD screen, then it means that the laptop’s VGA is faulty and needs to be replaced or the motherboard itself needs  to be replaced, in situation where the VGA is permanently attached to the motherboard.
  • In some case, the cause of the problem might be a loose or faulty video cable. To check this connection, you have to disassemble the laptop LCD screen panel. Wait a minute, before you embark on this, please click here for a step by step guide on how to disassemble an LCD screen. After you have succeeded in taking apart the LCD screen panel, reconnect the video cable and ensure that it is firm, but if this does not work it means that the video cable is faulty and needs to be replaced.
