How To Replace A Hard Drive Holder (Caddy)

Posted on 14:27 by Unknown
How to replace a hard drive holder, If you bought a new hard drive and you want to install it but the new hard drive does not have a holder, you can easily remove the holder parts from the old or faulty hard drive you intend to replace. You will need a small Phillips screwdriver for this procedure. For how to replace a hard drive holder, follow these steps.
  • Unplug the AC adapter, if the laptop is connected to power supply.
  • Turn the laptop and remove the battery pack.
  • Remove the screws securing the hard drive holder to the laptop
  •  Slide the holder out of the laptop
  • Remove the 3 or 4 screws from the sides of the holder securing the hard drive case to the holder.
  • Pull the drive out of the holder.
  • If you look closely, you will notice that the hard drive has a pin connector attachment at one end. Carefully remove this connector from the end of the drive. Do this carefully to avoid bending the connector pins
  • With the old or faulty hard drive now detached from the holder, take the new hard drive and put back the pin connector attachment.
  • Carefully put the pin connector attachment back onto the pins on the end of the new hard drive. Do this with some care to avoid bending the connector pins.
  • Insert the hard drive into the holder.
  • Reinstall the screws into the holder and drive case.
  • Slide or push the hard drive holder into the laptop.
