Laptop Power Turns On But It Does Not Boot

Posted on 15:07 by Unknown
Laptop power turns on but it does not boot, this fault or problem can easily be rectified through some very simple procedure and on the other hand, it could turn out to be a huge fault in which the motherboard might be replaced. Which ever scenario turns out to be the case there is always a way out of the problem and a cost effective way to handle the situation.

The most important thing at this point is you having the right information to troubleshoot your laptop and at the end of the day solve the problem with the information that you have gotten.

Possible Faults
  • Laptop is frozen
  • Faulty memory
  • Faulty hard disk
Solutions
  • Disconnect the laptop from power supply and remove the battery from the laptop. Wait a short while (at least 30 seconds). Replace the laptop battery into the unit, reconnect the laptop to  power supply and then turn the laptop on. If the laptop still does not boot, remove all removable devices such as memory, battery and hard disk. Put back each of the device one after the other and try powering the laptop again, any device that causes the same problem after it has been replaced back is definitely faulty.
  • If the laptop has two memory module, remove one and power the laptop, if it boots then the memory module that you removed is faulty but if it does not boot then remove the second memory module and put back the one you removed earlier and power the laptop again to see what happens. If the second memory module still doesn't work, then you have to replace one or both memory module. Also remember to clean the memory slot with a brush to remove accumulated dust particle before you carry out the troubleshooting process, i just mentioned.I
  • If the problem persist carry out the following steps
  • Force the laptop to shut down by Pressing and Holding the Power button.
  • Don’t worry; forcing a shutdown will not harm the laptop.
  • Power On the laptop and access the BIOS Setup Utility by Pressing F2.
  • If you fail to access the BIOS Setup Utility, shut down the laptop and try again.
  • Once you have accessed the BIOS Setup Utility, Press F9 to "Load default configuration now", and then Enter to select Yes.
  • Press F10 then Enter to "Save configuration changes and exit now".
  • Allow the laptop to restart normally, and then Restart the laptop.
